    Our first virtual Learn and Mingle Membership Meeting was a huge success! Fine Art Connoisseur editor-in-chief Peter Trippi, who served as the guest judge for our inaugural Excellence in Traditional Fine Art Competition, gave insightful remarks into the judging process for art competitions. Not only did he explain the process from the judge's perspective, he also included helpful pointers for both budding and seasoned artists who are looking to do well in the upcoming quarterly competitions.     It was great to see many of you at last Saturday's Plein Air Day. The event, which attracted several hundred attendees, celebrated the opening of our newest exhibition at the California Art Club Gallery at The Old Mill as well as the practice of painting outdoors. In particular, I enjoyed watching budding artists of all ages join CAC artists in capturing imagery of the historic site that houses our gallery. My gratitude goes to Christopher and Jennifer Burgan, co-chairs of the San Gabriel/Pomona Valley Chapter, and Chuck Kovacic, chair of the Los Angeles Chapter, for their invaluable assistance in making this event a great success.     2022 will be full of fun and inspiring programming including numerous Paint/Sculpt-Outs, opening receptions for in-person exhibitions, and much more. We will start the year off with two Paint/Sculpt-Outs at aweinspiring locations – Garrapata State Park in Monterey County and Wind Wolves Preserve in Kern County, the latter hosted by David Gordon, the Chapter Chair for the all-new Kern County Chapter!     With the ongoing pandemic, this year turned out to be a much more challenging year than we had anticipated. Nevertheless, we were able to present a variety of stunning exhibitions, launch a new quarterly art competition, expand our Family Day and educational programs and display an exceedingly successful Gold Medal Exhibition for the first time in Orange County – at the Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University.     I have exciting news as we look toward 2022. Next year our 111th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition will be presented in collaboration with the Bowers Museum, the esteem institution that has been voted the best museum in Orange County by both the Orange County Register and the Los Angeles Times. While we have partnered with the Bowers Museum in the past, the upcoming Gold Medal Exhibition will represent the first time our hallmark event is installed in the museum's galleries. Read more

    Last week we unveiled Coastal California at the California Art Club Gallery at The Old Mill – the first new exhibition at our permanent exhibition space at this historic landmark since the beginning of the pandemic.
