    Art enthusiasts will meet the exhibiting artists at this gala preview for the California Art Club’s 112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition and be among the first to view the paintings and sculptures selected for this much-anticipated display.

  • The Art of Appreciating Art – Opening Day Lecture with Jean Stern

    Sunday, July 9 at 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

    On opening day for the California Art Club’s 112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition, one of the nation’s most anticipated displays of Contemporary-Traditional art, art historian Jean Stern will explain the key elements that art experts and savvy collectors consider as they view representational works.

    Every Saturday morning during the 112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition, Gold Medal artists will be in the exhibition gallery to provide insights on their works and answer questions. Free with museum admission. On July 22, the artists participating in the Artist Spotlight Talks are: Echo Baker, Therese Conte, Martha Cowan, Glen Maxion, Lawrence McAdams, London Vale and Lin Zheng.

  • Sculpting Treasures from the Bowers with Christopher Slatoff

    Sunday, July 23 at 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

    Acclaimed sculptor Christopher Slatoff, who serves as the Sculpture Chair for the California Art Club, will lead this fun hands-on workshop as participants create their own original works inspired by the three-dimensional artwork in the John M. Lee Court.

    California Art Club painters and sculptors will set-up the tools of their trade in the Key Courtyard for a lively “Paint/Sculpt-Out.” Art enthusiasts may watch these artists create new works inspired by live models posing in the traditional dress of their cultural roots. This free event is fun for the entire family (museum admission not required).
