With our mission to foster a greater understanding and appreciation for traditional fine art and its classical art skills, the California Art Club presents a series of educational programs and events with each Gold Medal Exhibition.

    Budding artists of all ages can learn about representational artforms from Master Artists with the California Art Club during three “Learn from Master Artists” Family Days this summer at the Bowers Museum.

    Exhibition Preview & Artists’ Gala for the 112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition

    Saturday, July 8 at 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm

    Art enthusiasts will meet the exhibiting artists at this gala preview for the California Art Club’s 112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition and be among the first to view the paintings and sculptures selected for this much-anticipated display.

  • The Art of Appreciating Art – Opening Day Lecture with Jean Stern

    Sunday, July 9 at 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm

    On opening day for the California Art Club’s 112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition, one of the nation’s most anticipated displays of Contemporary-Traditional art, art historian Jean Stern will explain the key elements that art experts and savvy collectors consider as they view representational works.

    Every Saturday morning during the 112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition, Gold Medal artists will be in the exhibition gallery to provide insights on their works and answer questions. Free with museum admission. On July 15, the artists participating in the Artist Spotlight Talks are: Rick Delanty and Ellen Howard.

  • Family Day: Learn from Master Artists – Plein Air Landscape Painting with Robin Hall

    Budding artists of all ages can learn about representational art forms during three “Learn from Master Artists with the California Art Club” Family Days this summer at the Bowers Museum.

    Saturday, July 22 at 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

    Every Saturday morning during the 112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition, Gold Medal artists will be in the exhibition gallery to provide insights on their works and answer questions. Free with museum admission. On July 22, the artists participating in the Artist Spotlight Talks are: Echo Baker, Therese Conte, Martha Cowan, Glen Maxion, Lawrence McAdams, London Vale and Lin Zheng.

  • Sculpting Treasures from the Bowers with Christopher Slatoff

    Sunday, July 23 at 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

    Acclaimed sculptor Christopher Slatoff, who serves as the Sculpture Chair for the California Art Club, will lead this fun hands-on workshop as participants create their own original works inspired by the three-dimensional artwork in the John M. Lee Court.

  • Collectors’ Circle Exclusive Gold Medal Lunch and Tour

    Saturday, August 5 at 11:30 am - 2:30 pm

    Be part of an exclusive group to view the 112th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition with fellow members of the Collectors’ Circle. Meet leading exhibiting artists while enjoying a delicious lunch at Tangata Restaurant. Nestled within the celebrated Bowers Museum in Santa Ana, Tangata is deemed the “hidden gem of sophisticated California Cuisine” by the OC Examiner and winner of the OpenTable “Diner’s Choice” and “Great for Lunch” Awards.

  • Gold Medal Closing Day Paint/Sculpt-Out

    Sunday, September 10 at 10:00 am - 4:00 pm

    California Art Club painters and sculptors will set-up the tools of their trade in the Key Courtyard for a lively “Paint/Sculpt-Out.” Art enthusiasts may watch these artists create new works inspired by live models posing in the traditional dress of their cultural roots. This free event is fun for the entire family (museum admission not required).
