Greetings Friend!
Welcome to summer! Our line-up for this season includes a number of exciting events – from the not-to-be-missed virtual demo with the legendary Frank Ordaz to our signature exhibition, the 110th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition, to be presented at the Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University.
And I am particularly looking forward to this summer, as we will be able to gather after more than a year of Covid-19 restrictions. On Location in Malibu 2021, the eighth in a triennial series organized since 1999 by the Frederick R. Weisman Museum of Art, unveiled virtually last month, and we anticipate that the museum will open soon for in-person viewing. We will keep you posted about the museum’s re-opening plans.
As we begin to transition to a post-Covid world, we hope you will join us for our June virtual programs. On June 10, the Ruskin Art Club, our “cultural cousin” that was founded in 1888, will host an art talk about CAC’s more than 110-year history. Elaine and I will be joined by Jean Stern for what will certainly be a lively discussion that will address our founding as well as our recent exploration into outer space.
On June 19, Frank Ordaz will present his demo, creating works of the Gold Rush town of Nevada City. In conjunction with this demo, Frank has curated a beautiful collection of images of this historic site, which will allow artists (including me) to develop paintings prior to the event for possible inclusion in a review session with Frank.
Looking forward to seeing you in person and online!
