Golden Hour Glow showcases the beautiful golden light that occurs during the last hour before sunset, and the first hour after sunrise. This exhibition explores the warm light that imbues a soft natural glow on everything that it touches.
The guest judge for this exhibition is Ellen Howard, CAC Co-Vice President and Artist Member.
Another gorgeous Pacific morning in Northern California. Rendering the complexity of morning light is a challenge that I love. It involves attention to subtle color and value shifts, as well as light dynamics on water.
Drakes Estero is located in the Point Reyes National Sea Shore in West Marin. It's a favorite place for kayakers to come and paddle on the calm water to observe the local nature and wildlife. This painting captures the serene beauty of the Estero at the end of the day during the golden hour. My hope is that "Drakes Estero - Golden Hour" will give the observer a sense of calm and inner peace.
The end of the day can be quite spectacular on the coast. The sun's light reflecting off the water, the dark rock shapes and the crashing waves provide an abundance of wonderful images to capture in a painting.
This time of evening the city lights begin to twinkle as we head into the evening. The beautiful glow begins to influence the scene. A time and place to sit and be still.
This is the result of warm sunset lighting coming in through the window and illuminating my still life table, filled with some of my favorite antiques.
In LA River painting 34 Smoke House River View, deep golden light of a clear morning sun casts rich shadows of blue and purple. Golden light reflects off the concrete and the low-flow central channel. The ever-present riverbank paint markings by graffiti remediation crews make their own distinguishing typography. Vast swaths of concrete create beautiful abstract shapes of light, shadow and color, each formed by the laws of perspective, geometry calculus and engineering. No native river habitat is present. The only vegetation visible is a Tree of Heaven, a highly invasive non-native species making its home along the banks of the LA River.
A metaphor on the Human Soul facing time (represented here by the sunset), associated with the mortality of the human condition. Every human being is brought, at one point or another, to facing the unalterable flow of their time capital, but what befalls to the Soul when the very last grain of sand falls to the bottom of the hourglass?
A trolley in San Francisco moves up Market Street toward the setting sun as the fog roles in from the bay. The buildings are silhouetted against the sunset as people head home from work.
