The jumping frog event still takes place every year at the Calaveras County Fair in a nod to Mark Twain's short story The Celebrated Jumping Frog of Calaveras County. The painting portrays a proud frog owner and visitors to the 'frog spa' located under the stage where contestants are pampered and groomed for their event.
This Oaxaca Beauty is a great woman. She is a mother of four and cleans my house. Unaware of her beauty she was stunned when I asked her to model for me. Painted from life I wanted to capture her beautiful skin tones, strength and pride.
Five-year-old Emmerson was a flower girl at her uncle’s wedding. After the official ceremony, she continued to have great fun going around showing off her pretty dress and beautiful bouquet. Then it dawned on her that she might have to give back the bouquet which she really wanted to keep and take home with her. So, she sought out her bridegroom uncle and asked, “You think I can keep the bouquet?”
While on a recent visit to New York City, I noticed a little girl admiring a bronze sculpture. The sculpture, Fearless Girl, was created by Kristen Visbal in 2017 for International Women’s Day. It depicts a girl four feet high, promoting female empowerment. My painting captures the moment of this little girl mesmerized by this sculpture, trying to take a photo using her mother’s cell phone. What struck me was the powerful message this beautiful dynamic work of art represents. The bronze sculpture radiates courage, bravery, boldness, lacking fear, not backing down. From a young age we must learn to stay FEARLESS!
