CAC feels very lucky to host Len Chmiel for a Mentor Monday while he is in town for the Masters of the American West 2016. Chmiel is considered by his peers to be a master of design and composition. For the highly respected Chmiel, each painting he creates is an expression of himself. “I used to try to control everything, but now I allow my intuition to speak more. I try to stretch the truth of what the actual image is. I do paintings with recognizable subjects because I’m inspired by what I see; however, that is not my only intention.”
Chmiel’s work is represented in the collections of various museums and major corporations and is included in two books on oil painting. Len Chmiel: An Authentic Nature, which depicts four decades of the artist’s melodic, evocative, and often abstracted depictions of the land, was published in 2012. Usually on the first Monday of each month, a Master Artist meets with groups of five Associate Artists to provide insightful and constructive feedback about their work. We hope that this small intimate setting will provide a forum for artists to learn from critiques of each others’ work as well as their own.
Because we want to accommodate as many members as possible, members may only participate in Mentor Mondays once in a six month period. For example, if you take part in the November 2015 session, you would not be eligible to sign up again until May 2016.
Important: Mentor Mondays always fill up very quickly, with a waiting list for each session. If you need to cancel for any reason once you have confirmed your spot, please let us know as soon as possible so we can offer your spot to someone else.
