The LA River has become the focus of community and regional interest as its 65 mile length is being reimagined. The group will gather from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., along a particularly intriguing stretch bordered by two bridges, one of which is a gem from the 20s. Ducks, geese and the occasional heron can be spotted among the reeds and tree foliage. Utility lines, a jumble of warehouses and an incredible view of the Santa Monica Mountains complete the scene.

What: Paint/Sculpt-Out at the Los Angeles River

When: Wednesdays, June 22 and 29, beginning at 9 a.m.

Where: Los Angeles River near Gilroy Street (see note below)

Notes: After each session, the group will gather at the patio of the famed Frogtown Brewery, 2931 Gilroy St., Los Angeles, 90039, for a cold brew. A curated food truck is always parked at its curb.

Parking:

Park along Gilroy Street, walk to the end of the street where it meets the Los Angeles River walk. Look for a bright red SUV and Chapter Chair Chuck Kovacic, in a wide brimmed hat. There are no washrooms nearby.
