Henry Ketting Olivier
(1924 – 2004)

Henry Olivier, born in Indonesia, served apprenticeships as an art student with Dutch painters at the Academy of Arts, St. Joost, Neterlands. Olivier also studied art at Santa Monica College, received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Otis Art Institute and took additional arts courses at Cal State Long Beach as well as with museums in Paris and London. He earned a B.F.A. and an M.A. in drawing, painting, fine arts and teaching credentials from Cal State University. He was an instructor for many years in the Los Angeles County public school system, regularly demonstrated for and juried with local art associations, and was a docent at Cal State University at Long Beach. During World War II, he became a prisoner of the Japanese during their occupation of the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia). After the war, he worked as an illustrator and designer for several Dutch companies. When Indonesia became independent from Holland, Henry emigrated to the United States.

Henry Olivier resided in Venice Beach and San Pedro.
