Tall Ships Signature Paint-Out
Saturday, September 10, 2022 at 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
FreeAttention: CAC Signature Artist and Mentorship Program Members
California Art Club Signature Artists and Mentorship Program Members are invited for a plein air paint-out at the Ocean Institute Maritime Festival of Tall Ships Festival in Dana Point on Saturday, September 10.
The event kicks off a celebration of the forthcoming 2023 California Art Club’s Dana Point Invitational Plein Air Festival that will highlight the coastal city’s unique attributes, including surfing, sailing,
Dana Point and Richard Henry Dana, Jr.
The Orange County city of Dana Point was named after the headland of Dana Point, which was in turn named after Richard Henry Dana, Jr. (1815-1882), author of Two Years Before the Mast. The book was published in 1840 from Dana’s diaries recounting his two-year voyage as a merchant seaman departing from Boston in 1834 and sailing along the California Coast to Hawaii, returning to Massachusetts in 1836. Dana’s accounts are among the earliest of California history and describe the neighboring town of San Juan Capistrano, as “the only romantic spot on the coast”.
