BOOK SIGNING AND PAINTING DEMONSTRATION

Saturday, October 21, 2017 at 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm

In celebration of the publication of Painting California: Seascapes and Beach Towns, the second book from Skira Rizzoli about the California Art Club, the century-old arts organization will host a book signing with the authors on Saturday, October 21, at 1:30 p.m. at the California Art Club Gallery at The Old Mill.

The book signing, which will also feature a demonstration on the painting of seascapes, coincides with the gallery’s presentation of A Journey Along the California Coast, which spotlights more than 40 works of imagery along the state’s pristine coastline and Pacific Coast Highway and is on view through January 14, 2018.

Jean Stern, the country’s foremost authority on the California Impressionist movement and a co-author of the new book, will be signing books along with Elaine Adams, the California Art Club’s CEO and executive director, who penned the forward for Painting California. Artist Peter Adams, who also serves as CAC’s president and has five works published in the 276-page book, will conduct the painting demonstration that begins at 2 p.m.

Painting California: Seascapes and Beach Towns showcases 200 full-color illustrations of evocative seascapes, charming seaside towns, and beach communities from San Diego near the Mexican border to Crescent City at the Oregon border. It includes works by contemporary members of the California Art Club, as well as its early pioneering artists, including Franz A. Bischoff, Guy Rose and William Wendt.

The book has a suggested retail price of $55.00 and will be available through the California Art Club and fine booksellers in early October.
