About Douglas Family Preserve

The Douglas Family Preserve is a unique place with 70 acres of feral land which once was a nursery stock growth area for the Wilcox family nursery. In 1996 Santa Barbara residents raised more than $2 million to help the Trust for Public Land purchase the Wilcox Property for $3.6 million. The property, now a city park, was named “Douglas Family Preserve,” in recognition of the $600,000 contribution towards acquiring the park by actor Michael Douglas. There are 3 miles of twisting trails, a variety of green growth and wildflowers, and spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean coast line to the West & South and the Los Padres Mountain range to the north and east.
