The Rileys and Los Rios Rancho
Los Rios’ rich history goes back as far as 1871. The Rileys, a family of five, purchased 12 acres of land from the Wilshires in 1978. Moving from the city to Oak Glen, the Rileys learned how to cultivate hundreds of apple trees for their new family business. After a few years, the family orchard was opened to the public. The Rileys hosted events such as hoedown dances, pressing cider, and apple picking.
After years in the business, Devon and Shelli Riley decided to leave the Riley’s Farm and operate the historic Los Rios Rancho. Howard L. Rivers purchased Los Rios Rancho in 1906. He planted the largest apple orchards in all of Southern California, some of which are still running today.
In 1995, The Wildlands Conservatory purchased Los Rios Rancho in order to preserve the history and landscape for years to come. Today, there are many trails and outdoor activities for visitors to enjoy while visiting Oak Glen.
