Gold Medal Program: Merrell Gage, Lincoln and Los Angeles

Join us for a screening of the documentary film “The Face of Lincoln,” which won the 1955 Academy Award for best short film, followed by a lecture by Jean Stern, Director of the Irvine Museum, on the life and works of 13th CAC President Robert Merrell Gage (1892 – 1981). The lecture will look at several of Gage’s monumental sculptures, many of which can still be seen in and around Los Angeles. As a professor of sculpture at USC as well as the 13th President of the California Art Club (1932-33), Gage was an important figure in the history of both organizations.
