Gold Medal Exhibition artists Alexey Steele and Béla Bácsi share approaches for creating artwork featuring the human form as they demonstrate their techniques by painting and sculpting a live model.

“The Art of Looking at Art” – Lecture and Tour of 106th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition

Jean Stern, Executive Director of The Irvine Museum Collection at the University of California, Irvine and one of the country’s foremost experts on the California Impressionism movement, will provide tips for looking at and appreciating classical fine art, referencing works in this year’s Gold Medal Exhibition. Following his lecture, which will take place in museum’s Wells Fargo Theater, he will accompany attendees to the Gold Medal Exhibition for a closer look at the works on display.

Early California Paint/Sculpt-Out

Description: California Art Club painters and sculptors will set up the tools of their trade on the grounds of The Autry Museum for a “Paint/Sculpt-Out,” during which they will create new artwork featuring live models dressed in early California period costumes. Fun for the entire family.
