Idyllic Impressions will explore atmospheres that capture the simplicity of the senses in nature. The artwork featured in this exhibition traverses the traditional California Impressionist themes of figures, landscapes, seascapes and still lifes; all capturing the essence of idyllic moments in time.
The guest judge for this exhibition is Kathleen Dunphy, a Signature Artist Member of the California Art Club’s San Francisco Chapter.
Last summer I asked my husband to take me on a road trip as evening approached and the long shadows stretched across the hills and grass. It was a glorious evening.
I was drawn to the rhythmic pattern of the shadows on the early morning sunlit cliffs of Montero De Oro. As the sun rose, the cliffs glowed with rich oranges, yellows, and purples, casting rhythmic shadows across the terrain. The vibrant blues and greens of the ocean bring the scene to life, capturing the serene yet powerful energy of the waves kissing the shore. Inspired by the tranquility and majesty of nature at dawn, this piece invites us to pause, breathe, and embrace the magic of the natural world.
The crashing king tide wave captures a sense of movement and freedom of the unrestrained and untamed ocean. Sourced by my plein air study, I was inspired by the serene and evocative atmosphere of the sunset, the sea spray and the inviting tide pools. I enjoyed playing with the juxtaposition of the cool teals and lavenders against the warm peaches and pinks.
