A key artist in the current revival of representational art, Leffel was a pioneer who broke with mainstream modernism by reviving the realism of the 17th century masters. He studied Rembrandt’s creative process and developed a powerful, personal style that explores the magic and mystery of light. This exhibition of over fifty paintings, his first major retrospective, spans the years from 1958 to the present, and reveals why he is regarded as one of today’s great masters of traditional realist art. Leffel has been a Signature Artist with the California Art Club since 2013 and has been a long-time participant in CAC’s Annual Gold Medal Exhibition. Most recently, at the 102nd Annual Gold Medal Juried Exhibition at the USC Fisher Museum, Leffel was awarded the Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Arts Education for his great legacy of knowledge and promotion of traditional art techniques. That year, Leffel gave a demonstration and three-day workshop for the CAC. We are so grateful to partner with him once again to bring his prestigious talent to our members.
