Join CAC Signature Artist Stephen Mirich at Cabrillo Beach for a Moonrise Paint-Out. The Moon (which will be almost completely full) will be rising 20 minutes before the sun goes down letting the moon come up in the twilight sky and then fade into the night. The group will try and snag one of the fire rings on the beach. Donations of fire wood are appreciated.
Parking is available at the beach parking lot for $1 per hour with a max fee of $9. Parking lot closes at 10:00 p.m. There is some street parking around the beach and local neighborhood. Parking right along the beach is marked with no parking after 10:00 p.m. There are no restraints for parking on other streets.
Suggestions of what to bring: warm clothes, firewood donations, flashlight and painting light, painting gear, beach blanket and or folding chair, snacks and a thermos with something warm to drink.
Cabrillo Beach faces South East making it a wonderful vantage point to watch the moon come up over the ocean. The beach has a large expanse of beach turning into a rocky shore on the West side. A good meeting area will be in front of the Bath House; a large Mission style structure on the beach surrounded by grass and palm trees.
Directions: Take the 110 Freeway to San Pedro, Exit Left onto Gaffey Street. Follow Gaffey Street to 22nd Street and turn Left. Proceed two blocks to Pacific Avenue to the next signal at Stephen M. White Drive and Turn Left. This will take you into Cabrillo Beach. Stay to the left at the ‘Y’ in the road onto Oliver Vickery Circle Way for the parking lot.
