Qualifications:
All current members of the San Diego, Orange County or Los Angeles Chapter of the California Art Club.

Subject:
We are looking for plein air paintings that render the natural beauty of California with a specific focus on light.

Lumiere de California celebrates the unique light of California as expressed through plein air painting.
The Bonita Museum & Cultural Center (BMCC) is located in South Bay San Diego along the Sweetwater River. From the mountains to the bay, the Sweetwater valley is an ideal location for plein air painting.
Plein air painter Alfred Mitchell started the Chula Vista Art Guild seventy six years ago to document the flora and fauna of South Bay San Diego. The museum organizes a yearly exhibition celebrating plein air painting and through Lumiere de California we celebrate the artist and their ability to capture this spectacular light.

Medium:
Original paintings in oil, watercolor, pastel or acrylic

Canvas, panel, and paper size can be no wider than 40”

Commission:
60% Artist; 20% BMCC; 20% CAC
All artwork MUST be for sale.

HOW TO APPLY Please submit artwork for Lumière de California to Online Juried Shows. You may submit up to 3 paintings.

 

Submission Fees Please pay by credit card through Online Juried Shows. The first image you submit is $35, and each additional image is $10.

All submission fees are non-refundable.

ARTWORK DROP-OFF Thursday, May 12 – Saturday, May 14 between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center, 4355 Bonita Rd, Bonita, California 91902
PREPARING PAINTINGS

 

All paintings must be wired for hanging. Please label the back of paintings with your name, title of the artwork, medium, dimensions, and price.

 

SHIPPING INFO Shipped work must arrive no later than May 12, 2022 and a prepaid return shipping label must be included.

Additional Info “Wet” Gallery

In addition to the exhibition in the main gallery there will be a separate “wet” gallery of Bonita plein air. Local sculptor and painter Mehl Lawson will lead a Bonita Paint Out on Wed. May 18th.  Works will be featured in a “wet” gallery.  If you would like participate in the paint out please contact the museum.  If you would like to stay with a local host/collector during the week of the paint out and reception May 17 – 21st please contact the museum at 619 267-5141.  There will be a map providing possible locations for painting.
