WELCOME TO THE CALIFORNIA ART CLUB'S 89TH ANNUAL GOLD MEDAL EXHIBITION

The California Art Club was establishe in 1909 by a group of plein air (in the open air) painters. With the recent resurgence of California Impressionism (or plein air painting), these historic artists are sought after by museums and collectors around the world.
Today the California Art Club continues its respected reputation for qualtity fine art in both painting and sculpting. The Club represents a variety of artists from all over the United States and Europe who focus on the philosphies of traditional academic training. However, the Gold Medal Exhibition represents California-resident artists only.
This 89th annual Gold Medal Exhibition was judged by five "Signature Members" of the California Art Club and profiles approximately 150 works. The California Art Club is dedicated to setting a high standard in the realm of traditional art. Members look for their artistic inspiration established by the Classical Greco-Romans, the Italian Renaissance, the 19th century European Academies, as well as the founders of the California Art Club. Integral aspects of the traditional art philosophy include strengths in representation of nature, design, light, atmosphere, color harmony, composition, communication, and an overall emotional effect. Technical skill is also highly prized and must express knowledge of draughtmanship, perspectives, and values.
One of the goals of most Contemporary-Traditional artists is to exemplify ideal beauty and to lift the human spirit into a higher consciousness. The California Art Club aspires to a modern interpretation of these artistic philosophies and aesthetics.

MISSION STATEMENT AND STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The California Art Club is dedicated to enriching the American culture through the promotion of the fine arts in the fields of paintings, drawing, and sculpture with a special emphasis placed on the academic traditions and craftsmanship bequeathed by its founders. The California Art Club shall also organize public exhibitions to promote and preserve California's history and heritage. The Club provides and educational forum through its monthly meetings, various exhibitions, and the monthly newsletter. In addition, the California Art Club acts as an art library resource center by providing archival information on its early members and historical activities for the purpose of scholarly art research.
